The conversation around the Memphis Grizzlies has been wild for the last few weeks. Ja Morant taking time away from the team after his latest gun-related scandal has impacted them in more ways than one.

Missing a superstar like Ja Morant means other players have to step up on the court. But while they can do that and it is under their control, the changes off the court might be a bit difficult to accept.

Ahead of their game against the Golden State Warriors on Thursday night, Jaren Jackson Jr. was seen having to enter the arena after passing through a metal detector.

There has been a lot of conversation around guns and where they are allowed and where they aren’t. And the one thing that has become abundantly clear once again is that players cannot have firearms anywhere in the arena or on team premises

It’s not uncommon for security measures to be very intense in arenas, metal detectors are not a new concept. But the controversy around the Memphis Grizzlies at the moment means that these things will be noticed a lot more than they might have been otherwise.

Ja Morant’s situation has gotten even murkier after photos were released showing him with a woman and a room full of cash at a strip club. The superstar will take some time to live down all the stories that have been coming out about him right now. And as far as the gun thing goes, that will likely be brought up for the rest of his career, especially if metal detector clips keep going viral.

How Have The Memphis Grizzlies Been Doing On The Court?

In the immediate aftermath of all the news about Ja Morant, the team struggled a bit, dropping games against the Los Angeles Lakers and the Los Angeles Clippers. But they have since turned their fortunes around a little with back-to-back wins against the Golden State Warriors and Dallas Mavericks.

The Warriors game was an interesting one considering the current issues between Dillon Brooks and Draymond Green. But it turned into a statement win for the Grizzlies, who won 131-110. The Mavericks were also missing their stars, Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving, and the Grizzlies could pull out a gritty win against them in those circumstances. The team is comfortably 3rd in the Western Conference but will need to keep winning so they don’t drop in the standings in Ja’s absence.
