The Golden State Warriors won the 2022 championship under Stephen Curry’s leadership, and there’s no doubt that many expected them to be contenders once again this season. However, the Golden State Warriors have had an inconsistent season this year, and some have questioned whether they could repeat as champions.

Recently, Stephen Curry got real on the Golden State Warriors this season, noting that it feels strange to say, but the team is simultaneously trying to win and avoid falling to a play-in tournament spot.

“We’re still trying to win championships, but we’re also trying to stay out of the play-in, too. Both can be true,” said Curry.

The current play-in tournament format means that a team could end up getting eliminated from playoff contention in just one game. That, combined with the relative parity in the Western Conference, means that games have gotten a lot more competitive for the Warriors, as there are a lot of teams that are gunning for the No. 5 and No. 6 seed before the end of the season. The Warriors have the talent to win a championship, but they must also make sure to avoid the risk of getting eliminated in the play-in tournament. They recently had a five-game winning streak without Stephen Curry, so things are definitely looking up for them as of late.

Stephen Curry recently returned to the Golden State Warriors lineup during the team’s recent loss to the Los Angeles Lakers. As of right now, Stephen Curry is averaging 29.4 PPG, 6.2 RPG, and 6.4 APG.

The Warriors Have Struggled On The Road This Season

One of the issues for the Golden State Warriors has been their performances away from home. In fact, Stephen Curry recently expressed his displeasure with how the Warriors have done on the road.

“Our road splits have been trash this year in all categories. We’re trying to correct that as much as possible. This is our challenge. First quarter, we were down 20, and to fight our way back, shows you how much this matters to us. To try and get over the hump on the road, just got to have a better start,” said Curry.

Hopefully, the Golden State Warriors can figure out how to deal with this issue ahead of the playoffs. The ability to get wins on the road is important in the postseason, especially when one does not hold a home-court advantage in a series.

There is no question that the Golden State Warriors have the talent to win at the highest level. However, they need to iron out some of their issues, and we’ll see what happens in the future.
