It was going to be vital for the Los Angeles Lakers that their stars stayed healthy for the final stretch of the season, but they were out of luck.

LeBron James is set for a spell on the sidelines, in what was disastrous news for the team, but his co-star Anthony Davis doesn’t want him to rush back from his injury.

“What I don’t want is him to rush back really early and it’s still bothering him,” Davis said. “And now he can’t be himself… I want him to get completely right and healthy before he steps on the floor. It’s on us other guys in the locker room to step up and continue to win basketball games.”

It is definitely on the rest of the team and Davis, in particular, to step up. As much as the Lakers desperately need LeBron to be back on the court, a premature return might just make matters worse for him going forward. He is going to miss at least the next two weeks, after which he will be reassessed and it is on this group of players to make sure he doesn’t feel the need to rush back at that point because the Lakers have crumbled without him.

Shaquille O’Neal Took A Shot At Anthony Davis

Davis was pretty good in their first game without LeBron in this stretch, as he finished with 28 points, 19 rebounds, and 5 blocks. The problem, though, is that the Lakers need him to be outstanding to win these games. Pretty good is just not enough for them to get over the line, as was the case against the Memphis Grizzlies.

Laker legend Shaquille O’Neal echoed that sentiment when he stated that Davis needs to take his game to another level now after LeBron went down. Shaq also then took a shot at Davis by stating that he fell off after winning that title in 2020, as he was supposed to be the next great player in the NBA.
