The Boston Celtics faced the New York Knicks in Madison Square Garden tonight and ended up leaving the city with a 94-109 loss which saw them lose their position as the No. 1 seed in the East.

The Milwaukee Bucks have a slightly superior winning percentage right now while having played 2 fewer games.

Fans are already lining up to mock the Celtics for this loss to the upstart Knicks squad, who put on a defensive clinic to restrict all Celtics scorers to under 20 points and Jayson Tatum to 14 points on 18 shots.

Knicks’ reporter Fred Katz took the game to illustrate that the Knicks are officially a good team in the NBA after years of treading water, “Gonna say what was once a previously uncommon statement: The Knicks are good.”

Jayson Tatum was mocked for his disappointing performance, “Efficient Jayson Tatum games will have you legit amazed, and his bad games literally feel like CIA torture tactics.”

A Knicks fan mocked the defensive effort Josh Hart had to lock Tatum up in the game, “Jaylen Brown waking up Tatum for practice tomorrow after he was LOCKED UP BY JOSH HART TONIGHT.”

A fan pointed out how incredible the Bucks’ being the No. 1 seed is after all the issues they’ve faced this season, “Giannis has missed 14 games. Khris has missed 41 games. Jrue has missed 11 games. Bobby has missed 11 games. Pat has missed 18 games. Jae Crowder just arrived. The Bucks have the best win percentage in the league.”

A Celtics fan got defensive after the loss and lashed out at Knicks fans for not enjoying success in the last couple of decades, “Knicks fans chanting ‘Boston sucks. Your poverty-ass franchise hasn’t won a ring in 50 years.”

Knicks fans celebrated becoming the sole owner of the 5th seed in the East, “Knicks beat the Boston Celtics and gain sole possession of the 5th seed in the Eastern Conference.  NEW YORK! STAND TF UP!”

One fan called the Celtics’ position as the top seed for most of the season ‘fraudulent,’ “That Celtics #1 seed looking fraudulent.”

The Celtics were led in scoring by Malcolm Brogdon off the bench, who had 22 points on 62.5% shooting. The Knicks saw both Julius Randle and Immanuel Quickley scoring 23 points in a team effort to shut down the Celtics and take this win at home.

Should The Boston Celtics Be Worried?

As the Milwaukee Bucks sit on a 14-game win streak, the Celtics will worry about them peaking in the second half of the season. Boston has been dominant through most of the season but was without Jaylen Brown for this game, someone they desperately need to keep their offensive versatility. The Celtics are 44-18 while the Bucks are 43-17.

Tatum’s tendency to oscillate between 14-point games and 40-point games is not good, and he needs to find consistency. The Celtics have the deepest roster in the league, and that should help them stay competitive in the fight for the No. 1 seed.

Individual production from the players needs to become more consistent. Giannis Antetokounmpo is delivering night-in and night-out for the Bucks, and Tatum needs to take that role to keep hold of the best record in the league.
