Lakers Could Be The Key Reason Why Russell Westbrook Won’t Join Clippers

Russell Westbrook could not join the Los Angeles Clippers because of the Los Angeles Lakers.

Russell Westbrook was finally traded away from the Los Angeles Lakers before the 2023 trade deadline struck, ending his tumultuous tenure with the Purple and Gold and joining the Utah Jazz in the 3-team deal that landed D’Angelo Russell, Malik Beasley, and Jarret Vanderbilt in LA.

Meanwhile, Russ was expected to be bought out by the Utah Jazz, with many teams trying to acquire his services, including the Miami Heat, Chicago Bulls, and Los Angeles Clippers.

However, the former NBA MVP might be interested in playing for the Jazz while the rest of the teams are waiting to know his final decision. Paul George is actively recruiting Russ to the Clippers, but the player could be thinking of avoiding the Clips due to his ties with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Russell Westbrook’s Experience With Lakers Could Force Him To Stay Away From Clippers

This has nothing to do with Russ being loyal to his former team but with the experiences, he lived with that team. According to Sam Amico of Hoops Wire, Russ wouldn’t enjoy playing in an arena that’s shared with the Lakers, which is why he would take a closer look at his other options.

“The Clippers also have been mentioned as a potential suitor — though sources told Hoops Wire that after playing in his hometown of LA, and having it not work out, Westbrook may welcome a chance to play in an arena that’s not shared by the Lakers,” Amico wrote.

The prospect of landing Westbrook should be great for the Clippers, as they are trying to get a ‘true point guard’ to face the rest of the season. Their general manager didn’t like the options on the table before the trade deadline, but now that Westbrook could be free and ready to sign on a minimum, the Clips could take advantage of that.

It remains to be seen how this situation unfolds, but right now, this is a huge question mark for the player and all the teams trying to acquire his services.
