Luka Doncic’s a fan of Kyrie Irving, and it hasn’t been since the latter made the famed move to the Dallas Mavericks.

Irving was one of the first big names to garner all the buzz ahead of the trade deadline when he requested a trade from the Brooklyn Nets. He did have quite the suitor queueing up, but Dallas pipped the competition.

And now, Doncic has a chance to play with the NBA champion and stake a claim for a trophy of his own.

However, prior to this. he was and continues to remain an Irving fan. In a throwback video doing the rounds, Doncic backed Irving’s claim that the earth was flat.

It is fair that the argument does not put Irving on the same plane as Megasthenes who said the Earth was round, but the Slovenian isn’t one to care. Safe to say, with the regular season’s final stretch around the corner, the shape of the earth isn’t what the duo would be discussing.

Luka Doncic Gets Candid On Playing Alongside Kyrie Irving

While there were reports of Irving and Doncic’s fit, the latter seems quite pleased and eager to play alongside the former Net.

Speaking to the media ahead of Dallas’ game on Friday, he spoke about the marquee trade (via ESPN’s Tim MacMahon)

“We’ll obviously miss them here, but Kyrie’s Kyrie, man,” Doncic said to ESPN after Friday’s shootaround at the Golden 1 Center in his first extended comments since the Mavs made the blockbuster trade. “NBA champion. Probably the best ballhandler ever in the game. Amazing player, and he’s going to be fun to play with.”

Doncic and Irving give Dallas a massive chance of making the NBA Finals, health permitting. While going all guns blazing to acquire Irving was a gamble, all initial signs point to a good partnership brewing.
