During the prime of his career, Michael Jordan was not only the face of the NBA, but he also won almost every accolade possible in the league. It included winning six NBA Championships with the Chicago Bulls. In the process, he faced off against many great players, including former Phoenix Suns superstar Charles Barkley.

Michael Jordan and Charles Barkley‘s relationship may have started with a rivalry, but over the years, the two became close friends. Even after retiring from the league, MJ and Barkley remained friends, but it all changed when Chuck criticized Jordan for how he was managing his own team in the NBA.

Charles Barkley Goes Into Detail About Why Michael Jordan Hasn’t Talked To Him For Almost 10 Years

Many are aware of the fact that the mistake that cost Barkley his friendship with Jordan was criticizing the Charlotte Hornets owner’s management style. In a recent clip from the ‘All The Smoke’ podcast, Barkley went into detail about what went down between the two legends.

“That would be on his end, Matt. He was my best friend at the time, and I love the guy, and I miss the guy. But you know, I got to do my job. First of all, I don’t think it’s fair for me to critique other GMs and coaches and have a double standard. That goes back to the Skip Bayless thing. You can tell the guys he likes and guys he dislikes. I think I’m fair to everybody.”

He added, “What I said about Michael, I said [was] I don’t know if he’s ever going to be successful because of the people around him. I think he hires too many of his friends because your friends don’t ever tell you no. The hardest thing about being famous is because you’re paying all the bills. They on your private jet. They’re not gonna tell you when you’re doing something wrong.

Because he was struggling as a general manager, at running the time. And I said I don’t know if he’s ever going to be successful because the people around him are never going to tell him no. Yeah, don’t draft that dude. No, we need to trade that dude blah blah blah. And he went ballistic. And he called me, that’s the last thing I heard, ‘M*****f****r f**k you, you’re supposed to be my boy. And I said man, I gotta do my job and we haven’t spoken since that night. And that was probably close to 10 years ago.”

Charles Barkley explained in detail what went wrong between him and Michael Jordan. The two players haven’t spoken to each other in almost a decade. But Barkley still wants to fix their fractured relationship and get back with his best friend.
