Giannis Antetokounmpo Declares He Won’t Change His Free Throw Routine

Giannis Antetokounmpo says he won't change his free throw routine despite getting multiple 10-second violations against the Golden State Warriors.

Giannis Antetokounmpo is in the midst of another excellent season with the Milwaukee Bucks. He is averaging a career-high 31.1 PPG to go with 11.3 RPG, 5.3 APG, and 1.0 BPG, which sees him in the mix for the MVP award once again.

Giannis and the Bucks had suffered a shock defeat to the Houston Rockets a few days back, and they were keen to make amends for it when they faced the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday. Stephen Curry and the Warriors were coming off an impressive win over the Celtics, but they couldn’t keep up with the Bucks, who blew them out 128-111. Giannis scored 30 points in under 30 minutes but received multiple violations for taking more than 10 seconds to shoot his free throws. Teams have been pressing the NBA to call these violations on Giannis, and it seems the officials have been told to call it with greater regularity. After the game, Giannis was asked if he would be changing his free throw routine, and he made it pretty clear he won’t.

“I’m not changing. I’m just gonna keep focus on my routine, try to shoot it in 9.5 seconds instead of 10.”

The talk regarding this free throw countdown for Giannis had somewhat gone away, but it popped back up when Russell Westbrook started the countdown when the Bucks faced the Los Angeles Lakers. He does need to make some tweaks here, or else this is just going to be a nightly occurrence, and no one wants to see that. It somewhat took away from a dominant showing from the Bucks, who are looking to reclaim their crown.

The Milwaukee Bucks Got A Statement Win

This was a clash between the last two NBA champions, and the Bucks looked far superior here. Granted, the game was in Milwaukee, and the Warriors have been terrible on the road this season, but it was still quite impressive.

We might well have seen these two face off in the NBA Finals last season if not for injuries, as there is a good chance the Bucks would have beaten the Celtics if Khris Middleton had been healthy. He is still not quite right this season, and the Bucks will be hoping that he’s fully healthy when the playoffs come along.
