In the modern internet age, things can get pretty wild from time to time and Friday afternoon was another one of those moments that got completely out of hand. This week, after the iconic sports apparel brand, Adidas got trolled by Kevin Durant, they posted a pretty nasty response that instantly went viral with thousands of reposts in just a few minutes.

The post was taken down shortly after it went live, but fans were quick to grab a screenshot and Adidas was forced to admit their mistake in the replies.
meant to send that from the burner account…

Whether this was a genuine interaction or a staged battle for clicks, Adidas definitely won the internet this week for coming at an NBA legend like that, even if it was on accident. Fortunately, Durant seems to be taking the whole thing like a champ and besides that initial message, he’s gone quiet on this small ordeal.
Kevin Durant Is A Nike Athlete For Life
This story began with Anthony Edwards’ signature Adidas kicks, but Durant doesn’t have a problem with Edwards or his sneakers. In fact, if Ant was a Nike athlete, Durant would probably be more open to sporting his sneakers on the court. But Edwards is associated with Adidas, which is currently Nike’s biggest competitor in the market.
As the two titans of sports apparel in North America, Nike and Adidas have been in a cold war for ages now and Durant chose his side a long time ago. He signed with the brand way back in 2007 and has been with them ever since, leading up to 2023 with the release of the Nike KD 16. In April, he even signed a lifetime contract with the company, forever cementing his association with the iconic checkmark. Clearly. Durant is a Nike man and nobody should be expecting him to slip into a pair of Adidas sneakers anytime soon.
A Shacky Reputation In The NBA
Adidas is working hard to catch up to Nike and change their reputation as a second-hand brand. In 2023, the company has secured exclusive partnerships with various stars, including James Harden and Damian Lillard, but all of the top players are allied with rivals. Famously, LeBron James turned down extra money from Adidas to sign with Nike, and basketball legend Tracy McGrady once spoke with regret about his 25-year relationship with Adidas brand.
Nevertheless, they keep pulling athletes in and Anthony Edwards is the latest one to emerge from the fold. His business is obviously huge for the company, but it’s not a good look for them to be trash-talking one of the game’s biggest stars on social media like that. In this case, the worst of it seems to be over now but with the way that social media is these days, there’s just no way to know for sure and Kevin Durant has been known to drag things out in the past…
