Jamal Murray has tormented Lakers fans over the last two years, but some fans are taking their dislike for Murray to an inappropriate level. One Lakers fan shared a picture of Murray on their TV while they’re pointing a gun at the screen after the Nuggets Game 5 win eliminated the Lakers from the Playoffs.

In terms of comedic effort, the surrealness of the joke gives it shock value and could be funny if intended as a joke. But given the fact that Lakers fans have previously sent their own players and team owner death threats, jokes like this against opposing players shouldn’t be encouraged.

Murray hit two ice-cold game-winners on the Lakers this series and averaged over 30 points in the Nuggets sweep win over the Lakers in the 2023 Playoffs. The point guard has given Lakers fans bad memories they’ll carry with them for years, especially the two brutal buzzer-beaters this season.

Murray ended Game 5 with 32 points, scoring 12 in the final quarter to complete yet another fourth-quarter takeover to defeat the Lakers. He came into the game with a calf injury, so it’ll be interesting to see how he recovers in time for Game 1 against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Jamal Murray Has Nothing But Respect For LeBron James

Even though some Lakers fans are making jokes on social media, which could be disrespectful to Murray, he has nothing but respect for the Lakers leader LeBron James.

Murray first shared how big of a LeBron fan he is, recounting James’ incredible game-winner against the Orlando Magic in the 2009 NBA Playoffs and one of his biggest fan moments with the game.

“I don’t know where to start, I remember when I was a little kid and he was playing against Orlando when he was in Cleveland, I was wearing his jersey… He hit that shot with one second left, so I’m talking to my dad. I’m a little kid, so I don’t know much and I’m like, ‘There’s no way they’re going to win.’ I remember him catching and hitting it and me being out of breath like I had been punched in the gut. I didn’t know how to react.”

Murray opened up on what going up against James in such a competitive environment means to him.

“He’s been one of my favorite players for a (long) time. It’s a pleasure to go against him. He makes you think during a game. He’s still a physically dominant guy out there but he makes you think the game with his reads and passes, his timing is great, and he’s super athletic on top of that. You guys know LeBron, it’s a pleasure to go against him.”

James and Murray had some interactions throughout the series. Murray alluded to James getting a few blocks on him and small trash-talk between the pair. Even if James had his moments, Murray got the ultimate highlight when he dunked on James in Game 5 as part of a late fourth-quarter run that Murray capped off with the game-winner.

LeBron will now get to watch Murray compete while he sits at home, reversing the roles that the pair had 15 years ago. While LeBron won’t be wearing a Murray jersey, he definitely will respect his achievements after what he’s done to the Lakers in the last two seasons.
