Anthony Davis and the Lakers had their season ended by the Phoenix Suns last night, as their latest loss means they are no longer in a position to secure a spot in the play-in tournament. The Lakers were supposed to be championship contenders going into the season, but things never really clicked for them. One of the biggest reasons for that was because the Lakers had so many players out injured.

Anthony Davis spoke after the game about the injuries that affected the Los Angeles Lakers. Davis noted that injuries to so many players on the team, including himself and LeBron James, really made it tough for the team to cope. He lamented his own injuries, especially because of the role he plays on the team as a leader (0:50 onwards).

“Disappointed that we haven’t had the chance to have our full team. Whether it was myself out, LBJ out, other guys, its the most disappointing thing. Not sure how good we could have been. But myself personally, two unfortunate injuries that kept me out for a while. As one of the leaders on the team, especially on the defensive end of the floor, where guys need me the most, wasn’t able to be out there, sucks for me, sucks for our team, organization, gotta recap now and see what’s next.”

Davis is clearly frustrated about the way the Lakers’ season ended. During the press conference, he also noted that the Lakers’ goal was to win a championship this season. On top of that, he remarked that the Lakers’ injury problems were so severe that they had more starting lineups than they had wins in the season.

AD did seem to want to run it back with the same squad, noting that they hadn’t really gotten a chance to play together and see what the potential of this squad was. But the more likely scenario is that the Lakers will be making wholesale changes to the squad before the new season tips off for them.
