Anthony Edwards and the Minnesota Timberwolves recorded a 127-117 win over the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday night. After the game, Edwards had something to get off his chest when walking down the hallway of Crypto.com Arena, as per Star Tribune’s Chris Hine

“As he was walking down the hallway, Anthony Edwards was referencing the Lakers talking a bit the last meeting. ‘We didn’t have Gobert last time. We had him this time,’ he said for all to hear.”

You can understand Edwards perhaps being a bit miffed over the Lakers talking when the teams last met on Mar. 10. Not only was Rudy Gobert not playing, but Karl-Anthony Towns was out as well, and the Timberwolves lost 120-109 in their absence. To hear the Lakers talk trash then wouldn’t have sat too well with the 22-year-old.

Still, for Edwards to make a big deal out of this win with Gobert being back was a bit odd, as the Lakers were without their big guns here. LeBron James did not play in this game and Anthony Davis only played a quarter. Davis was inadvertently struck in the face by Kyle Anderson in the first quarter and it aggravated a left eye injury.

So, to put it simply, both teams managed to get a win each in the last two meetings when the other side had some injuries to deal with. It is hard to draw any definitive conclusions from those contests with that being the case.

We might find out which is the better team in the playoffs, though, as the Lakers and Timberwolves could meet in the first round. The former is currently the ninth seed in the West with a 45-34 record while the latter sits at the top of the standings in the conference with a 54-24 record.

You’d hope that both teams would be healthy when the postseason comes around. Edwards, who had 26 points, 1 rebound, 8 assists, and 1 steal on the night, said during his postgame interview that Towns is coming back soon.

The big man had to undergo surgery to repair a lateral meniscus tear in his left knee and has been out for a month at this point. If Towns can be anywhere close to his best when he returns, the Timberwolves would fancy their chances against anyone.

Anthony Edwards Complained About The Free Throw Differential After The Last Lakers-Timberwolves Game

The trash talk from the Lakers players wasn’t the only thing the two-time All-Star was annoyed about after that meeting in March. Edwards complained about the free differential after the Lakers beat the Timberwolves.

“It’s tough. It’s tough every night when we don’t get to the free-throw line as much as the other team. When 1 player shoots more free throws than you’re entire team, it’s tough. It’s tough to compete… You want to compete and if every time they get the ball, we so-called foul them and they get to the free throw line. It’s tough. I don’t know how to explain it, man.”

That night, the Lakers shot 29 free throws while the Timberwolves only shot 13 of them. Davis was the player whom Edwards was referring to, as he had 13 attempts by himself.

Funnily enough, that margin between the two sides widened in Sunday’s clash despite the big man only playing a quarter. The Lakers shot 32 free throws to just 14 for the Timberwolves, but the home side still managed to come away with the win.
