It’s only been a few weeks since the trade that sent Tyler Herro to the Milwaukee Bucks, but that’s all the time he needed to start a beef with his former All-Star teammate, Bam Adebayo. While things had been awkward for days, nobody imagined they would get physical, but that’s exactly what happened when the two met up at an indoor gym at the Resorts World Casino in Las Vegas.
In the initial report, very few details were revealed about the series of events in question. Now, however, we know a little more about the incident, and it tells a harrowing story about how the two former teammates turned enemies.
“The incident took place at a gym inside the Resorts World Casino in front of Herro’s AAU team,” The Athletic reported. “According to multiple sources who witnessed the incident and were granted anonymity to discuss a sensitive matter, Adebayo walked onto the courts and Herro said something to him. Adebayo proceeded to walk over to Herro and, without hesitation, punch him. Herro’s AAU coach confronted Adebayo, and Herro yelled at his former teammate while being escorted out by security personnel. Both players left the scene on their own…Herro appeared to have a small mark under his left eye during the interview, which occurred shortly before news of the altercation with Adebayo emerged.”
It all began with a series of DMs between Herro and a fan, which eventually escalated into Tyler downright trash-talking the Miami Heat big man. When Adebayo found out about Herro’s treachery, he knew he had to respond with violence, and that’s what set the stage for their encounter in Vegas.
Interestingly, it appears as if Herro started the exchange, giving choice words to Bam after seeing him on the practice court. We don’t know what was said, but it was enough (combined with the DMs) to prompt an immediate swing from Adebayo, elevating the encounter to a massive scandal.
As far as who won the duel, that much is clear. Herro was seen with a swollen black eye shortly after the story leaked, implying it was a direct result of Bam’s fist. Security had to get involved and escort Bam off the scene, but it happened in front of Herro’s AAU team, adding another layer of embarrassment to the whole ordeal.
The event was witnessed by several people, but many prominent team personnel are still unclear on the details, including Bucks head coach Taylor Jenkins. When asked, he refused to comment on the incident to avoid speaking in ignorance.
“Yeah, uhh… no comment,” said Jenkins. “I don’t really know all the specifics.”
Ultimately, it remains to be seen if any further fallout will happen from this altercation. Since nobody was seriously hurt, it’s possible that nothing comes from this, and both sides are allowed to move on entirely. At the very least, though, it puts a blemish on the Bam-Herro duo that won so many games together.
History says it’s hard to come back from something like this, and the ordeal may haunt Herro for many years to come. The only thing for him to do now is channel his rage and use it to have a breakout season with his new team. Winning solves everything, after all, and it might be the only way to make the fans forget about this Las Vegas scandal.
