The Boston Celtics showed a lot of resilience to force a Game 7 after going down 3-0 in the Eastern Conference Finals. Although the Cs did not come out on top in the end, the fight they showed down the stretch of the series was proof that there’s still a path to success with this core.

Even still, the latest reports out of Boston indicate that GM Brad Stevens is strongly considering trading at least one of their guards to address other roster needs.

“Boston only holds the No. 35 overall pick but the team is looking at making potential tweaks to the supporting cast around Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown,” via MassLive. “The Celtics are particularly loaded in the backcourt with Marcus Smart, Derrick White, Malcolm Brogdon and Payton Pritchard all under contract for next season and the team is investigating moving a guard to improve other areas of the roster, per a league source.”

The Celtics’ big move of the 2022 offseason was adding Malcolm Brogdon, but it clearly wasn’t enough to push the team over the top. With options quickly running low, it makes sense that Boston is looking to their backcourt to address their biggest concerns.

But the real question for this team is the future of Jaylen Brown, and what they do with him, given the huge extension that he’s on the table for.

Will The Celtics Split Tatum And Brown?

Among the many issues on the table for Boston this year is the long-term pairing of their two stars, Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. While the two have had great success together, their failure to bring home a title after all this time is causing some to wonder if they are the right fit together.

“I don’t want five stars on my team,” said Shaquille O’Neal. “I want a guy that I can go to every night, I want a guy that’s going to lead, and I want three dogs, three others. I would prefer if they were specialists: one to be a shooter, one to be a rebounder, and one to be a fighter.”

Only time will tell us how this all plays out for Boston, but they cannot afford to make the wrong move this offseason. With their very future at stake, any mistake at this point could have drastic consequences for the Celtics franchise.
