Kevin Durant requesting a trade to get out of Brooklyn has been one of the more interesting happenings of this offseason and the saga has now been going on for almost a month. Initially, it seemed that KD might end up joining the Phoenix Suns, but then the Miami Heat had an interest in acquiring him, so it seemed like a deal would be possible with them.

The asking price for Durant is steep though, and not many teams can afford to pay it, so the rumors on where he would end up had slowed down over the past week or so. They came to life again on Monday, with Shams Charania reporting on an offer from the Boston Celtics that the Nets turned down.

But now, Brian Windhorst, who has been accurate when it comes to a lot of things this offseason, has spoken about that reported offer. Windhorst suggested that the offer was actually quite an old one and that the Celtics and the Nets aren’t currently trying to work a deal out, as many assumed once the news broke.

“I don’t think the Nets are involved in active talks right now. … I know it came out today so it’s front of mind, but those are not fresh talks.

“Right now the Nets’ viewpoint is: If they can’t get their price, they’re going to ride out the storm. … They could start the season with Durant or that could be a negotiating stance.”

This didn’t stop Jaylen Brown from reacting to the news on social media, something that the Celtics will have to now deal with moving forward. KD would certainly be an excellent fit on the team if they can retain their best player. He could prove to be lethal alongside Jayson Tatum. If what Windhorst has said is true though, then a conclusion to the Durant saga might not be as close as fans might first have assumed when news of the offer initially broke.
