Carmelo Anthony recently shared his thoughts on who should start for Team USA at the 2024 Paris Olympics, making a surprising selection that excluded veterans like LeBron James, Stephen Curry, and Kevin Durant. When asked by his son Kiyan Anthony, Carmelo initially considered the established superstars before deciding to focus on the younger talent in the squad.

“I would go with Steph, Braun, AD, KD, and I would go with, who am I missing? I’ll scratch that, I’ll go young. I’ll go young, I’ll go Halliburton, Anthony Edwards, Bam Adebayo, I’ll go Jason Tatum, and I’m missing one more, Book.”

“Then I’ll come off the pine with Bron, KD, Joel, Steph, you know what I mean? And Jrue Holiday.”

Carmelo’s decision to pivot from the seasoned veterans to the younger stars highlights a shift in his perspective. He recognizes the importance of injecting fresh energy and talent into the lineup. Halliburton has shown exceptional playmaking skills and maturity beyond his years, making him a valuable asset at the point guard position.

Anthony Edwards, known for his explosive scoring ability and athleticism, brings a dynamic presence to the team. Bam Adebayo, with his defensive prowess and versatility, provides a strong anchor in the paint. Jayson Tatum’s scoring and all-around game make him a crucial part of the lineup, while Devin Booker’s sharpshooting and clutch performances add an edge to the starting five.

Carmelo also emphasized the depth of talent on the roster by mentioning the experienced players who would come off the bench. This blend of youthful energy and veteran experience gives Team USA a versatile and formidable lineup capable of adapting to various game situations.

By selecting a younger starting five, Carmelo highlights the future of USA Basketball while still acknowledging the vital contributions of the veteran players. This approach ensures that Team USA has a balanced and dynamic squad ready to compete at the highest level in the Paris Olympics.

Carmelo’s choices reflect a strategic vision aimed at maximizing the team’s potential and securing another gold medal for the United States.
