Kyrie Irving tried his best to make amends with his former team, but it seems that the Celtics and their large fanbase still hold a major grudge. Even minutes after the franchise won its first championship since 2008, Celtics fans took to the streets to invoke and curse the name of Kyrie Irving.

Nobody knows the exact location of the video, but there was a similar situation after Game 1 when they used a blow-up doll with his face on it. For the first time since 2008, the Celtics are champions again and it’s emboldened their fans to rise up with a confidence never seen before.

Kyrie, 32, no longer has any close ties to the Boston Celtics but his history with them is no secret. His trade from the Cavaliers back in 2017 is what first brought him to New England and it’s where he stayed for the next two seasons.

But after a falling out with his teammates and some drama behind the scenes, Irving (8x All-Star) felt compelled to break his promise to the fans and leave the team behind at the first opportunity. It wasn’t long before he moved on to the Nets, where he famously stomped on ‘Lucky the Leprechaun’ in an act of revenge.

For years, Irving fed into this narrative about major animosity between him and the Celtics franchise and it is clearly something that the fans never forgot. Irving, meanwhile, is doing everything he can to smooth things over.

He’s tried to make peace with the city already and came out to express his sympathies with how it all played out during his time there. Irving says he’s matured from that ordeal and confirmed that he still has connections both in and around the city.

While the resentment from fans is understandable, I think their hatred has gone a step too far given that they have taken to hating on their former players instead of celebrating a newly won championship.

The Celtics are 18x champions so they are a franchise that is used to success. Even so, the team went 16 years without a title… until today when they finally re-captured the Larry O’Brien trophy.

Over the next few weeks, the celebrations will commence all around Boston and across the NBA for this latest achievement but they are not satisfied yet. As 18x champions, the Celtics are accustomed to success and we know they will be more determined than ever to come back next year and defend their championship with newfound strength.

As for 2016 champion Kyrie Irving, he must concede victory to his former team but it may not be the last we’ve seen of him at this stage of the game. He and Luka Doncic, 25, will be ready to avenge this loss and finally prove to those Celtics fans, and everyone else, that he’s capable of going all the way.
