Charles Oakley has been obvious in the past about his dislike of Charles Barkley. This isn’t entirely unexpected, Oakley isn’t historically known for liking too many people. But his issues with Barkley have gotten explosive in the past.

In 1998, there were rumors that Charles Oakley had punched Charles Barkley. In 2022, GQ asked Oakley about the incident, and he said he never punched Chuck. He slapped the sh*t out of him, and he explained why too.

“He’s just talking too much. He’s not trying to get nothin’ solved,” Oakley said. “He was just talking and being in the press like he does on TNT now. He said something about the Knicks, and I took it to heart.

“Even though we ain’t win nothin’, you ain’t gonna talk about the team that I rep and I’m around. I’m not having it. Barkley just kept talking and I told him, next time I see him, on point, I’m coming right up to him, and I got something for him.”

Charles Oakley was an enforcer on the court and off it, he would defend his teammates and his friends through any means necessary. His friendship with Michael Jordan is common knowledge, and he has spoken about why MJ will also never forgive Charles Barkley, among other stars from the 1990s.

Charles Oakley Said He Had No Issues With Charles Barkley But Also Called Him An A**

Charles Oakley never minced his words, it’s never been his style. In the same interview, when asked about whether he and Barkley still have a bit of a feud, his response was as blunt as it could get.

“I don’t have no issue,” Oakley said. “He probably got an issue with me– ‘Why Oak always gotta talk about me?’ Same way you get to talk about these young kids now, trying to make a living for themselves. You criticize them every night. So, why can’t somebody criticize you?

“You was an a** when you played. Great talent, but ask anybody he played with, he was an a** to play with. It was never teamwork. It was all about him. So, hey: It is what it is.”

It does sound like there isn’t much love lost between the two after all these years. And considering that there have been physical altercations, it makes sense that those feelings never got resolved. Charles Oakley and Charles Barkley will likely never get along with one another.
