It looks like Chris Paul learned of his trade to the Washington Wizards, just like most of us. The veteran point guard was on his way to New York when reports of the blockbuster trade broke.

Paul told Good Morning America on Monday, “I was surprised too … in this league, anything can happen. I found out on the plane yesterday flying here for this. In this league, anything can happen, so you just figure out what’s next.”

The 38-year-old was all smiles on the show when he revealed how he found out he was traded to the Wizards.

The blockbuster trade that saw the Phoenix Suns land Bradley Beal caused ripples in the NBA circuit as the first blockbuster offseason move, and as far as Paul’s future goes, chances are he might not be a Wizard for long. The former guard has been linked with both the LA Clippers and the Los Angeles Lakers.

Earlier, it was reported that the Lakers were keen to sign him if he was waived by Washington.

“The Lakers would have a strong interest in signing Chris Paul if the guard is waived or stretched by the Suns, multiple team sources told The Athletic,” wrote Jovan Buha

“Here’s what you need to know: Signing Paul to a veteran’s minimum contract would allow the Lakers to use one of their exceptions on another player to bolster their depth. Another option the Lakers have discussed is signing Paul and retaining D’Angelo Russell to truly solidify their point guard position, according to those sources.”

This comes on the back of Paul pictured practicing at the Lakers’ facility, the footage of which sent social media into a frenzy. At the time of writing, there is no speculating about where he will indeed land, but that’s a no-brainer in the fact that he’s been heavily pursued by multiple teams.

Signing Chris Paul Is Part Of The Lakers’ Plan A

Soon after news of Beal to the Suns broke, NBA insider Marc Stein reported that the Lakers’ top priority this summer was renewing the contracts of Austin Reaves and Rui Hachimura and signing Chris Paul in the free agency as their Plan A.

The Lakers have been linked to a string of big names starting with Kyrie Irving, and Beal was one of the players who the franchise reportedly made a beeline for as well. But with Paul’s future at Washington uncertain, chances are LA will look to add him to their ranks, bolstering their chances of winning a championship.
