Chris Paul Said He Didn’t Give Any Attention To Girls In High School: “My Girlfriend Was My Basketball.”

3 Min Read

Chris Paul is one of the best point guards to ever play in the NBA. The Phoenix Suns superstar has been a very impactful player wherever he’s played, although he’s yet to win that elusive championship. CP3 always had a huge love for basketball, and during his teenage years, he took it to the next level.

We’ve all heard stories of people falling in love with the game, but for Paul, his passion was bigger than that. During an old conversation with some high schoolers, Paul revealed he didn’t pay attention to girls in high school, naming his favorite tool in the world his girlfriend.

Paul was so focused on fulfilling his dream that he had no time to think about something else, becoming obsessed with the beautiful game, dating zero people in high school, and calling his basketball his girlfriend.

“You got a boyfriend? How old are you? 14? Ok, so y’all been on the phone talking all night? You don’t even have a phone? Ok. Well, listen. I understand, I’m not mad at you. Does anybody know how many girlfriends I had when I was here? 1? Nope. 4? Damn, I appreciate it, but not quite… None, exactly, none, and I tell people all the time my girlfriend was my basketball, that was my girlfriend.

But this is the thing, too, at your guys’ age, what do you have to talk about? Especially if your boyfriend and girlfriend go to school here. You ain’t got that much to talk about, so you’re sitting on the phone all night listening to each other breath. I had a plan, I didn’t have time to have a boyfriend or girlfriend or walk seeing people hug, that’s disgusting. Go to class…”

That was his mindset back in the day, and it worked wonders for him. Paul entered the NBA as a highly touted prospect, joining the New Orleans Hornets and changing things for them. He then joined the Los Angeles Clippers, Houston Rockets, Oklahoma City Thunder, and now is with the Phoenix Suns. Even though he hasn’t won a championship, Paul is still considered one of the most impactful players in the league.

Perhaps next season will see him get that championship to top off a terrific career. He has the team, the coaching staff, and the level to do it. It remains to be seen if they can go all the way to the championship or will suffer another shocking defeat in the postseason.
