Point guard Russell Westbrook has managed to revive his career with the Los Angeles Clippers. There’s no doubt that the point guard has been a stellar player for the team, especially in the playoffs.

At the end of this season, Russell Westbrook will be a free agent, and he will likely receive a lot of interest when the offseason rolls around. The Clippers will definitely try to retain him, though, as revealed by Clippers President of Basketball Operations Lawrence Frank.

“Yeah, we want to bring Russell back,” Frank said during Thursday’s end-of-season press conference with members of the media. “I give him a ton of credit and I think it’s a great example of when you have a trust in your partnership. T-Lue, PG, and Kawhi advocated strongly for Russ. He brings a great energy and spirit to the team, around the building. We sat down, we discussed it, we sat down with Russ, Ty Lue, and myself. And we’ve feel really, really good for what Russ able to do and you guys get to see what he brings on the floor.”

There is no doubt that it’d be good for the Clippers to bring back Russell Westbrook. He provides an element of rim pressure for the team and takes some of the ballhandling duties away from Paul George and Kawhi Leonard.

In the playoffs, Russell Westbrook averaged 23.6 PPG, 7.6 RPG, and 7.4 APG for the Los Angeles Clippers. He has clearly stepped up in the absence of Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, and he was clearly an extremely valuable addition to the squad.

Paul George Has Lobbied For Russell Westbrook To Come Back To The Clippers

Based on his playoff performances it is clear that one of the Clippers’ main priorities this summer should be to re-sign Russell Westbrook, and Paul George recently claimed that he’s willing to vouch for Westbrook’s return.

“He’s played himself back into the Russ that he was and that we all knew that he still was,” George said. “Definitely gonna be some decisions. I definitely vouched for him to be here. I’m definitely vouching for him to come back. I just think he brings so much to his team and I mean it’s amazing to watch him. He’s older than me and he’s putting his body on the line. He’s giving literally everything he’s got to our franchise during this playoff run. So I just think he’s the leader that we need at the point guard position going forward and would love to have him back.”

It will be interesting to see if the Clippers do, in fact, manage to keep Russell Westbrook. He has definitely increased his value in the playoffs, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see some team lure him away from the Clippers by offering him a more lucrative contract.
