Damian Lillard had a rather cryptic response to a reporter’s theory of a potential team-up with San Antonio Spurs draft pick, Victor Wembanyama.

In response to CBS’ Steve Futterman’s tweet regarding the Spurs landing the lottery, “Could it be Vic and Dame??” the Portland Trail Blazers star replied with a simple yet cryptic “If so”.

If so… https://t.co/MiztFAPR5X

This prompts theories of whether Lillard will leave Portland this summer and join the rebuilding Spurs who had a woeful finish to their 2022-23 season. Conversely, it also showed how the Blazers came inches close to landing the French prospect.

It’s established knowledge that the Blazers ended with the No. 3 pick, while the Charlotte Hornets had the No. 2 slot. Missing out on one ball cost the Blazers a shot at securing Wembanyama’s services — one that would have made the side a legitimate powerhouse.

Meanwhile, fans speculated whether Lillard wanted to become a Spur soon after his tweet. “Dame, you saying you wanna come to SA?” one of the fans asked.

One of the fans believed it was a possibility.

We can still make it happen bro. https://t.co/s6pbDIwOy5 pic.twitter.com/z52bfgYQ6s

It’s unlikely the Lillard-Wembanyama pairing will happen, but in a silver lining, the Blazers at least have the chance to select Brandon Miller or Scoot Henderson.

Damian Lillard To The Miami Heat?

The lethal sharpshooter has been linked with several teams ever since the Blazers failed to make the playoffs, and the Miami Heat is one of the teams linked to the point guard and is one of the teams likely to land him, said ESPN’s Brian Windhorst.

“I think the Heat are on the cusp of looking for another star maneuver,” said Windhorst said.

“I would put them on the list for Dame Lillard if Dame ends up getting traded. If he goes to market, I think the Heat are on that list. I don’t know if they have enough. A lot of their offer would be built around Tyler Herro, who’s just injured. But I suspect, I don’t know for sure, just to be clear, I don’t know for sure that they would offer him, but I would suspect that that would be the type of thing, that and draft picks.”

With Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo, the Heat already have a solid, star-studded side, and getting Lillard would mean trading their complementary pieces, but what it does is give them a sure bet in the guard who can instantly transform the Heat to title contenders.
