The Philadelphia 76ers are in the market for a new Head Coach after Doc Rivers was fired. The Sixers have failed to make it past the second round of the playoffs for three years under Rivers, and they will be looking to add a coach that can take them to the next level.

There are a lot of interesting candidates for the Philadelphia 76ers to choose from. And former Sixer Danny Green has backed Monty Williams for the job.

“I think Monty can coach Joel (Embiid),” Green said on his Inside The Green Room podcast. “We don’t know what’s gonna happen with James Harden. So I think he’s a good fit and (has) a positive attitude. Teach them how to play the right way, unselfish basketball.”

Monty Williams took the Phoenix Suns to the NBA Finals in 2021 and helped them win over 50 games twice in the last three seasons. He now has experience when it comes to working with superstars, and is a prime candidate among the Head Coaches that are currently available.

The Sixers will likely need clarity on James Harden’s future before they acquire a Head Coach, but Williams has shown he can build up a team that isn’t already successful either. His involvement could help develop Tyrese Maxey into a true star as well. The Sixers could do a lot worse than hiring Monty Williams to coach the team.

Nick Nurse Has Been Mentioned As A Potential Candidate For The Job

The Milwaukee Bucks and the Toronto Raptors also let go of their championship-winning Head Coaches following the season, so there are some top candidates in the market. Nick Nurse is a name that has been drawing attention from across the league, and he reportedly took a meeting with the Sixers as well as some other teams

“One major name on the carousel is Nick Nurse, who was let go by the Raptors after five seasons that included Toronto’s first NBA title. He is expected to begin his formal process with meetings with Milwaukee, Phoenix, and Philadelphia and is expected to be in high demand and could have his job to choose from, essentially his selection process.”

The Philadelphia 76ers have the MVP of the league, Joel Embiid, on their roster. As such, they need to ensure that they get the right coach for the job. Monty Williams has proved that he can lead winning teams and he still has something to prove, which would make him a good fit for the job.
