The Los Angeles Lakers radically altered their roster at the trade deadline, shipping out a number of veterans to get younger players such as D’Angelo Russell and Malik Beasley to fill out their roster with shooting and offense. Many believe that the Lakers had an amazing trade deadline, and they could make a late-season push for the play-in tournament or the playoffs.

Recently, Darvin Ham revealed that his goal for the Los Angeles Lakers is to make the sixth seed outright. This position makes sense, as the coach likely wants to avoid the play-in tournament.

Lakers news and notes from their first practice post All-Star break:
– LeBron James was given the day off after being in Salt Lake City for ASG
– Darvin Ham says he will stick with same starting lineup he used in win vs. New Orleans
– Ham's goal is to secure the 6th seed

It would definitely be interesting to see if the Los Angeles Lakers manage to make the sixth seed. They would have to be stellar coming out of the All-Star break, but one should never count out a team that features many talented players. As long as the Los Angeles Lakers get healthy, the Los Angeles Lakers will be a tough matchup for any team.

The Los Angeles Lakers Have The Talent To Get Far

The Los Angeles Lakers are a more well-rounded team after the trade deadline, and it is clear that many have changed their projections about how far the team can go. Previously, Stephen A. Smith suggested that the Lakers could end up going to the Conference Finals.

“I like D’Angelo Russell on the Los Angeles Lakers, averaging 17 points, 45% shooting. I like Malik Beasley on the Los Angeles Lakers. I like this kid [Jarred] Vanderbilt on the Los Angeles Lakers. They’ve improved their shooting. They’ve been able to spread the floor. They’ve improved their defensive prowess. If these guys are healthy, the way the West has looked, I can’t summarily dismiss the possibility that the Los Angeles Lakers could make some noise and, dare I say, potentially advance to a conference finals.

This is definitely a more optimistic projection for the Los Angeles Lakers, but it is not out of the question. There has been a lot of parity in the Western Conference this year, and perhaps the Lakers could get far this year if they get the right matchups.

A lot has to go right for the Los Angeles Lakers for them to get into the playoffs, especially since the team had a really poor start. However, it is quite possible that they will end up bouncing back, and their recent win against the New Orleans Pelicans could be a foundation for future success.
