DeMar DeRozan Says He Almost Teamed Up With Paul George And Kawhi Leonard On The Clippers

DeRozan says he almost signed with the Clippers to join Kawhi and PG.

On paper, most NBA experts agree that the Los Angeles Clippers are as good as any team in basketball. When healthy, they go 12 deep, with guys like Norman Powell, Terrence Mann, and Ivica Zubac filling major roles for them.

In a recent appearance on ‘Podcast P,’ Bulls star DeMar DeRozan revealed that he nearly became a Clipper as well before signing with the Bulls and it was a move that may have denied the Clippers a championship.

“In that moment I was like, ‘hell yeah!’ Let’s figure it out. The business side of it was flawed in its own right but me just looking at it like man, I could do this, play with my dog home? Let’s try to figure it out.”

The Clippers didn’t have enough room to give DeRozan the offer he was looking for, but it’s still fun to imagine what a team with him, PG, and Kawhi could look like. Certainly, they’d have a better chance of still being in the playoffs now as opposed to being on the outside looking in once again.

What’s Next For The Clippers After Failed Season?

The Clippers are likely to make some trades this summer, and they will need to if they want to stay competitive in the West. While PG and Leonard are obviously untouchable, we can expect GM Michael Winger to consider all options in the offseason.

“Lots of teams that can use Chris Paul for a short-term contract that you can get out of after one year,” reported Zach Lowe. “And I mention the aggregation thing only because of one team I would look at. And this is through no reporting. I have no inside sources. The Clippers have telegraphed that they think they need a point guard to run their team.”

Whether it’s CP3 or someone else, the Clippers are going to make a move or two before next season. The only question is, will it be enough to get them over the top?

With only two stars and a history of flameouts, nobody is going to favor them to win the West. But if they can show some consistency and build up the supporting cast around their main guys, the Clippers should be a team to reckon with next season.
