  • Devin Vassell has signed a new five-year deal with the San Antonio Spurs
  • The deal is for $146 million overall
  • Vassell averaged 18.5 points for the Spurs last season

The San Antonio Spurs are a team with a lot of young talent as of right now, and they are clearly in a rebuilding process. The team is clearly planning to keep this young core together for the long term, and one of their recent moves shows their commitment to this iteration of the team.

Adrian Wojnarowski recently revealed that Devin Vassell and the San Antonio Spurs have agreed to a five-year, $146 million contract. There is no doubt that this is well-deserved by the young guard.

“San Antonio Spurs G Devin Vassell has agreed on a five-year, $146 million contract extension, Andrew Morrison, Rich Beda and Mitch Nathan of

tell ESPN. Vassell lands rookie scale extension as part of 2020 Draft class and solidifies himself as a Spurs cornerstone.”

As of right now, it is fair to say that Devin Vassell is a 3 and D player, who is capable of guarding either backcourt position and even some wings. He is a great player off-ball as well and fits well within the San Antonio system. It is easy to see why the team decided to keep the young guard.

This past season, Devin Vassell averaged 18.5 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game for the Spurs, while shooting 38.7% from 3PT range. He still has some room to grow in terms of slashing to the basket and creating his own shot from the midrange, and it’ll be interesting to see how he does next season. To some, Vassell has star-level potential, and it is clear that the Spurs believe in what he can do.
