- Kevin Porter Jr. will not be back with the Houston Rockets
- The team has tried to trade the guard this summer
- Porter Jr. has a history of off-court issues
Guard Kevin Porter Jr. was once viewed as a promising young talent in the NBA, but there’s no doubt that his conduct off the court during his time in the league has been horrendous. The consistent off-court issues, including recent domestic violence allegations, have clearly soured many on the guard, including the Houston Rockets themselves.
Recently, Rockets GM Rafael Stone got real on the Kevin Porter Jr. situation, claiming that he told Porter Jr.’s representatives that the player could no longer “be part” of the Rockets. Stone also noted that since that time, Porter Jr. has not been around the team.
“The allegations against him are deeply troubling,” Stone said, per Rhiannon Walker of Yahoo Sports. “Going back a few weeks, as soon as I heard the allegations, I informed his representatives that he could not be part of the Houston Rockets. He has not been with the team or around it since that time.”
It is clear that the Houston Rockets are not taking the allegations lightly, and the team is obviously done with the guard. The Rockets are in the process of trading Kevin Porter Jr. after his attack on his girlfriend, and the team seems ready to get rid of him by any means necessary.
Hopefully, we see the Rockets figure out this situation sooner rather than later. Many people believe that Kevin Porter Jr. does not have a place in the league given all that has transpired, and it is clear that Stone believes he shouldn’t be on the Rockets.
Kevin Porter Jr. Has A History Of Issues
There is no doubt that this summer was not the first time that Kevin Porter Jr. has been in trouble. In fact, Austin Rivers once opened up on Porter Jr.’s history of problems on the Rockets, noting that the team didn’t know what to do with him from the moment he got there from the Cleveland Cavaliers.
It seems unlikely that Kevin Porter Jr. will ever play in the league again, based on the nature of the allegations and the associated jail time with domestic violence. It is clear that the guard’s actions were unacceptable.
It remains to be seen how the situation with Kevin Porter Jr. continues to unfold. If the Rockets can’t find a trade for him, then they will likely cut him, but regardless, Porter Jr.’s time on the team is over.
