  • Austin Rivers stated that Kevin Porter Jr. has had many chances in the league
  • Rivers noted that Rockets “higher ups” had previous issues with Porter Jr.
  • Kevin Porter Jr. was previously arrested for domestic violence

The Houston Rockets are a team that was expected to make a huge leap during the upcoming season. The squad has a huge amount of talent with young players like Jalen Green and Alperen Sengun, and the team certainly has high potential. With that being said, as of right now, the team is dealing with an off-court matter involving Kevin Porter Jr., who was previously arrested on a number of domestic violence charges.

Guard Austin Rivers used to play for the Houston Rockets, and he recently opened up on Kevin Porter Jr.’s situation with the Rockets. Rivers claimed that “higher-ups” in the organization had issues dealing with him, and that was right when Porter Jr. got traded to the squad by the Cleveland Cavaliers.

“That door’s got to be closed,” said Rivers. “I don’t even want to be that guy. But, fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, three times, four times, five times, six times… we’re like past chance seven at this point. I remember talking to guys in the Houston Rockets organization, higher ups. They were talking about how they were having issues then. Like, ‘we don’t know what to do with him.’ This is when he just got there from Cleveland.”

There is no doubt that Kevin Porter Jr. has had a number of issues throughout his NBA career, mostly off the court. Porter Jr. has a history of felony assault, violence, and an altercation at a strip club, and it is clear that this situation with Kysre Gondrezick is not the first time he’s gotten in trouble.

The Houston Rockets Are Trying To Trade Kevin Porter Jr.

As of right now, the Houston Rockets are trying to trade Kevin Porter Jr., and the Rockets are even willing to move on from multiple draft picks to trade Porter Jr. and move on from him. It is clear that they do not want his situation lingering over the franchise.

The main benefit for a team acquiring Kevin Porter Jr. would be the draft compensation involved rather than anything Porter Jr. can provide on the court. There is a high likelihood that the team getting him would simply cut him, as his contract is not guaranteed for the 2024-25 season and the 2025-26 season.

It remains to be seen if any team will be willing to trade for Kevin Porter Jr. going forward. As of right now, no deal for him seems imminent, but the Rockets are clearly motivated to send him somewhere else.

Adam Silver Spoke Out About The Allegations Against Kevin Porter Jr.

The current situation with Kevin Porter Jr. is obviously big news, not only for the Rockets but also the NBA. We previously saw Adam Silver break his silence about the horrific allegations against Porter Jr., with the commissioner claiming that he doesn’t know much aside from what he’s read.

“Yes, the allegations here are horrific,” Silver said. “No question about it. But I don’t know any more about the actual facts other than reading those allegations.”

There have been some suggestions that Kevin Porter Jr. could be put on administrative leave by Adam Silver, and many would obviously prefer that he take that course of action. However, there have been no indications that this will happen imminently, though things can change quickly in situations such as these.
