As load management becomes more and more prominent in the NBA, more and more players, fans, and media members have spoken out against it.

NBA legend Dominique Wilkins seems to be the latest legend to join that list after his recent comments on SiriusXM NBA Radio went viral this week.

Speaking on the subject of load management and the idea that today’s players have a higher workload than players in the past, Wilkins did not hold back from vocalizing his disagreement.

“Redick doesn’t know what the hell he’s talking about. What basketball was you watching? To say something as idiotic as that is ridiculous. When you can put your hand on a guy’s hip and make him go a certain way… how many guys can deal with that kind of pressure? And for JJ Redick, who has played this game, I’m very disappointed that he said something so stupid.”

This criticism comes after Redick lifted up the physicality of today’s game and suggested it as a viable excuse for the increase in missed games for stars.

There’s no denying that the game is faster and richer with talent than ever before, but it’s also clear to see that life has gotten easier for NBA stars than it was years ago. They are no longer required to play as often or as hard as they once did.

NBA Could Take Action Against Load Management

Of course, it’s unreasonable to expect every player to play every game of the season. It’s an 82-game campaign and the playoffs are where the real stakes are at.

Still, regular season games are important to the fans who pay to attend or watch these games live, and they are the ones who suffer when stars skip playing for no good reason at all.

If legends like Jordan, Magic, and Dominique Wilkins made it a point to play as much as possible, there might still be hope that the mentality will pass on to the modern generation as well.

But considering how lackluster the effort in this year’s All-Star game was, it seems things are trending in the other direction.
