Donte DiVincenzo’s Controversial Old Tweets Resurface: “Ballin On These N****s Like I’m Derrick Rose”

Donte DiVincenzo's controversial tweets from when he was a teenager have resurfaced.

Donte DiVincenzo certainly was a bit of a wild teenager once upon a time. DiVincenzo has been the consummate professional during his time in the NBA, but his controversial old tweets have now resurfaced again.

These had first resurfaced back in 2018 when DiVincenzo had won NCAA Final Four Most Outstanding Player. Following his 31-point outing for Villanova in the NCAA title game against Michigan, some users checked out his Twitter account and dug these up.

The first tweet is, of course, referring to the lyrics of Meek Mills’ song, “Derrick Rose.” It had been released just a week or so before DiVincenzo’s tweet. While all he was doing was quoting the lyrics, a White individual using that word caused a bit of an uproar at the time.

The rest of the tweets weren’t a good look on him either, but DiVincenzo was just a teenager when he put them up. We have all said and done things when we were teens that we were a bit embarrassed by when we got older.

With some backlash coming his way, DiVincenzo ended up deleting that account and he would make a new one in 2020. His case is a reminder, though, that if you put out something on social media, it’ll never quite go away, especially if you’re famous.

Donte DiVincenzo Is Having The Best Season Of His Career

NBA teams certainly weren’t put off from drafting DiVincenzo because of those tweets, as the Milwaukee Bucks selected him with the 17th pick of the 2018 NBA Draft. After three and a half seasons with the Bucks, he would be traded to the Sacramento Kings in 2022 and played half a season for the franchise.

DiVincenzo then spent the 2022-23 campaign with the Golden State Warriors, after which he signed a four-year, $50 million deal this past offseason to join the New York Knicks. He reunited with his former Villanova teammates Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart upon arrival.

DiVincenzo is having the best season of his NBA career playing next to Brunson and Hart. The 27-year-old is averaging 14.9 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.3 steals, and 0.4 blocks per game in 2023-24, and recently set a Knicks record by drilling 11 three-pointers against the Detroit Pistons.

DiVincenzo is loving life in New York and has played his part in the Knicks being fourth in the Eastern Conference with a 43-28 record. They look like contenders when healthy and it will be interesting to see just how far this group can go in the playoffs this season.

If the Knicks can avoid the Boston Celtics in the first two rounds, I think they would have a good chance at getting to the Eastern Conference Finals. Considering the franchise last made it that far back in 2000, I would say that would go down as a very successful season for them.

His passion for the sport was ignited after witnessing the high-octane offense of the Steve Nash-led Phoenix Suns. Among the Suns, Shawn Marion stood out to Gautam as an all-time underrated NBA player. Marion’s versatility as a defender and his rebounding prowess, despite being just 6’7”, impressed Gautam immensely. He admired Marion’s finishing ability at the rim and his shooting, despite an unconventional jump shot, believing that Marion’s skill set would have been even more appreciated in today’s NBA.This transformative experience not only deepened his love for basketball but also shaped his approach to sports writing, enabling him to connect with readers through vivid storytelling and insightful analysis.
