Draymond Green Continues His Beef With Kevin Durant, Says He Won Championships Without Him

Draymond Green had some words for Kevin Durant on the court after the Golden State Warriors beat the Phoenix Suns 113-112 on Saturday night. On the latest episode of The Draymond Green Show, the 33-year-old shared what he told Durant and brought up his infamous comments from 2018.

“Everybody was questioning what I said to KD at the end of the game, (I said), ‘This is me, it’s me.’ And I’m not going to share the other word that I said because that’s a spur-of-the-moment type of thing,” Green said. “You’re in the game, words come out but this is me, I do this, been doing this, gonna keep doing this, which is the same thing I said in that Clippers game years ago. Been winning championships, been doing this, going to keep doing this when you leave here. Didn’t lie.”

(starts at 20:25 mark):

Draymond is, of course, referring to a moment that many believe led to Durant’s departure from Golden State. At the end of regulation in a game against the Los Angeles Clippers on November 12, 2018, Green and Durant got into a verbal altercation after the former didn’t pass the ball to the latter.

Draymond reportedly called his then-teammate a b*tch multiple times, and it was claimed he also said, “We don’t need you. We won without you. Leave.” Leave is exactly what Durant did after that season, as he joined the Brooklyn Nets.

Years after that incident, Durant admitted he started isolating himself after Green screamed at him. The incident just created a divide between the two men, and while it seemed like they had buried the hatchet, Green has now stoked the flames yet again.

To be fair to Draymond, his comments back then did end up being on point. The Warriors showed they didn’t need Durant in order to get over the line, as they won the championship in 2022.

Draymond Green Blasted Kevin Durant For Questioning His Character

Green had a whole lot to get off his chest during this episode, and he wasn’t in the mood to hold back. Draymond also took a shot at Durant for calling out his character.

“To start questioning my character I thought was whack… guys are making a habit out of that,” said Green. “Jusuf and Kevin questioned my character before as if you gonna determine somebody’s character from a basketball game as if this is not real life… I thought that was cowardly… You gone question somebody’s character? You got my phone number. If you thought I hope you get the help that I need, you got my phone number. Hit me and say that. I thought it was all cowardly…”

His anger toward his former teammate really appears to stem from when Durant said he hopes Draymond gets the help he needs after he had struck Jusuf Nurkic in the face. The four-time All-Star thinks a comment like that should have been made privately and not in front of the media.

It will be interesting to see if Durant responds to any of this. He has never been one to shy away from firing back at those who take shots at him, and Green sure took a lot of them.

We unfortunately won’t get to see these two face off on the court for a while, as the contest on Saturday was the last regular season meeting of this campaign between the Suns and the Warriors. The only way they meet again in 2023-24 would be if they face off in the playoffs, and if they do, it would be must-watch television.
