Draymond Green spoke on ‘The Draymond Green Show’ about his sadness over not being able to celebrate Jordan Poole’s massive contract. While talking to Kevon Looney, he noted that he enjoys taking players under his wing, and finds happiness in their success. And not being able to do that with Jordan Poole, through his own faults, hurt him deeply.

“For me, I’ve tried to teach and instill everything I know, into this man right here. Because I felt like that was my duty. Take a young guy under your wing. And then you see them have success, it is the best feeling. By the way, it was the same thing for me with Jordan Poole.”

“When I took JP under my wing, and to see him have success, was the best thing for me. One of the worst feelings I’ve ever had as an NBA basketball player was seeing him get a contract and knowing I f*cked it off and I couldn’t celebrate his contract. I think he had a party or something with his people in San Francisco or something. And to not be able to go celebrate that with him, and I f*cked it off, I did… I messed that one up. But it hurts.”

Green clearly wishes he would’ve handled the situation differently, but the Warriors have moved on from the situation. Green famously punched Poole at a Warriors practice, which caused him to be suspended from team activities. The punch effectively disrupted team chemistry and ruined the Warriors’ team chemistry for their title defense season.

Will Jordan Poole Ever Regain His Warriors’ Form?

Jordan Poole was traded from the Warriors to the Wizards in the offseason last year. Since joining the Wizards, Poole has completely been exposed as a player, with many fans souring on him for being selfish and caring about his statistics over the team’s win.

Last season, Jordan Poole averaged 17.4 points, 4.4 assists, and 2.7 rebounds for the Wizards. He shot 41.3% from the field and 32.6% from the three-point line, and had a season plus/minus of -553. Compare this to his best season with the Warriors in 2021-22, it is a stark difference.

In the Warriors’ title-winning season, he averaged 18.5 points, 4.0 assists, and 3.4 rebounds, while shooting 44.8% from the field and 36.4% from the field, and ended the season with a plus/minus of +324.

Poole has become somewhat of a punching back for the NBA, with many fans and even analysts poking fun at him whenever they get the chance. Earlier this season, Poole was mocked by a Celtics commentator for getting hit in the face, with the commentator referencing Draymond Green.

Poole is still young enough to recover his form. But he will need to lock in and focus on the Wizards if he wants that to happen. He is in a low-pressure environment with the Wizards, which gives him the opportunity to learn and grow, and he needs to take it as soon as possible if he wants to revive his career.
