The road for 76ers big man Dwight Howard hasn’t always been smooth. In fact, throughout much of his career, he was seen as irrelevant, overrated, or just flat-out unimportant.
But over the past few years, Dwight has really turned things around, changing his reputation to become a solid role player and NBA Champion.
After passing Walt Bellamy for 11th on the All-Time scoring list, D12 took some time to reflect, noting the level of difficulty that comes with such an achievement.
“It’s just a blessing to be able to play this game for this long and been able to be a player that’s top 11 in rebounds,” Howard said afterward. “I don’t think people understand how hard it is to get rebounds and to get up and moving into the list with some of these greats.”
Rebounding is, perhaps, a part of the game that goes underappreciated. Rebounding is an essential aspect of basketball, and every team needs a guy that can control the boards on a consistent basis.
Say what you want about Dwight, but he’s clearly a guy who steps up in that regard, and in many other ways.
Aas a veteran, leader, and premier interior defender, he sets the tone for Philly’s second-unit and helps stabilize the defense without Embiid.
Howard certainly deserves a lot of credit for that.
