The NBA is a unique sports league across the world in that they have time and again committed to speaking out against social injustice in the world. LeBron James himself is a big advocate for social justice, and many other stars do a lot of philanthropy as well as activism off of the basketball court. But the eyes of the NBA world were all on the court on Tuesday as LeBron James became the all-time leading scorer, much to the chagrin of former player Enes Kanter Freedom.

Enes Freedom is one of the league’s most interesting cases. He claims he was blackballed from the NBA for speaking out against the Chinese government. There have been others that suggested that he just declined enough to no longer be in the league. But Freedom has continued to speak out despite not being in the NBA.

LeBron James is being rightfully celebrated across the NBA world for his accomplishments, but Enes Freedom took to Twitter to call him out instead.

“38,388 Points
0 Morals
0 Values
0 Principles
0 Empathy
1 Bow Down to #China
Congratulations to @KingJames.”

“People get mad when I speak the truth because I’m the only athlete who actually speaks the truth. I don’t care about your endorsement deals or your dirty money. You can NOT buy me #CCP! Don’t expect me to respect you or your game when your shoes are literally made by SLAVE KIDS.”

There’s not a lot that anyone can say in response to this, Kanter Freedom’s points have been consistent ever since he started speaking out against China. LeBron James would never respond, especially not on such a historic night, but fans sure did.

NBA Fans Reacted To Enes Kanter Freedom Lashing Out At LeBron James

While there is always support for whatever cause an athlete fights for, there are days when fans don’t care to see it. And a lot of replies to Freedom suggest that fans didn’t quite appreciate it.

“You are not getting back in the league let it go.”

“Why is this man the saltiest mf ever?”

“This gotta be the most one sided beef in NBA history.”

“He don’t care about you lil bro.”

“This level of hating is elite.”

“Props to Enes, man never takes a day off.”

“Just let it go for today, man.”

“Chasing attention again, are we?”

“Man said he’s being targeted by assassins and this is what he’s worried about.”

“This is just not necessary. You have bigger enemies than LeBron if you really care about China.”

Enes Freedom has revealed recently that there are serial killers that have been hired to end his life. These topics are all extremely delicate and nuanced, and it’s tough to conclude any of them. All people can hope for is that both Freedom and LeBron continue to stay safe and thrive.
