Over 20+ years in the NBA, LeBron James has played with a long and extensive list of teammates but how many of them do you actually remember by name today? In a recent skit for social media, ESPN analyst Brian Windhorst (who covered LeBron for many years) was given the ultimate test of his knowledge by naming some of the King’s most obscure teammates ever… and he did not disappoint.

We all know that LeBron has played with stars like Kyrie Irving, Kevin Love, and Chris Bosh over the years but you’ll be hard-pressed to find someone who can remember guys like Eric Snow, Anderson Varejao, Mike Bibby, and Scea Cotton. In the case of Windhorst, though, it makes sense that he’d know these guys considering his history of covering LeBron James exclusively for years.
By far, though, the most impressive aspect of LeBron’s long list of teammates is how consistent he was as a winner despite experiencing so many different roster changes. No matter who was around LeBron, or where he was in his career, he found ways to win and almost always delivered when it counted the most.
LeBron’s Impressive Track Record
As the NBA’s oldest active player, it’s no surprise LeBron’s former teammates stretch far and wide. Starting in Cleveland back in 2003, James was a star from the very start and it became apparent that any team he was on posed a major threat to win the title. One of his most impressive runs came in 2007 when he single-handedly led an unimpressive Cavaliers team to the NBA Finals. His best teammate that year was Drew Gooden.
Of course, James often gets criticized for his move to the Heat in 2010 but it was arguably the first time in his career that he had a proper title-contending team to back him up. Unlike many stars who have teamed up with other stars, LeBron capitalized on the opportunity and won two championships before returning to the Cavaliers in 2014. The fact is, success has followed LeBron in almost every chapter of his basketball career and his ability to win in vastly different situations is proof that his game transcends the normal impact of a superstar.
Who Is LeBron’s Greatest Teammate?
Of course, just as it’s true that James has played with some subpar talent, he’s also played alongside some basketball legends. Since 2003, James has been helped by a number of sidekicks raging from Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love in Cleveland to Anthony Davis with the Los Angeles Lakers. By far, though, LeBron’s teammate is the one who, ironically, went unnamed by Windhorst: Dwyane Wade.
At the height of his powers, Wade was a top-five player in the game and he had already won a championship years before LeBron and Chris Bosh came to town. But after “the decision” in 2010, Wade took a step back and gave full control to the King. This humble sacrifice no doubt played a role in Miami’s success during this era when they won two titles in four straight appearances to the NBA Finals. Even for a guy as good as LeBron, it’s impossible to win without the proper support and Wade was the first one to live up to standards as LeBron’s partner and NBA co-star.
