Former Detroit Pistons star Rick Mahorne looks like he hasn’t moved on from the infamous rivalry the team shared with Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls during his playing days.
“F*** them…I don’t even shake hands when I lose a championship. Man, forget that” he said on the Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz.

Mahorn was a key figure in the Pistons unit as he served as a solid bruiser in the paint, playing a key role in the team;’s 1989 championship run. Like the rest of his team, he earned a bad rap from teams across the league for their dominant and physical style of play where they would pummel opponents to the ground.
The center, though, hasn’t forgotten the aftermath of the events in 1991 when Chicago finally managed to get past the Pistons with a 4-0 sweep. And in what will be looked at as one of the defining moments in the NBA was the fact that Detroit stormed off-court without shaking hands at the end of the game.
The Pistons vs. Bulls rivalry, which also included the notorious ‘Jordan Rules’, was the major story in the final 80s and the early 90s. The contests often ended with fights and feuds, but no doubt that they defined the rise of MJ and the Bulls.
Isiah Thomas Reveals Why The Team Didn’t Shake Hands With The Bulls
While Mahorn just didn’t fancy the idea of standing there and watching the Bulls celebrate, Isiah Thomas had an explanation for why the Pistons didn’t display any sportsmanship after the sweep.
In an episode of Shannon Sharpe’s “Club Shay Shay” podcast, the legendary point guard said, “Jordan, before they swept us, the night before, he has this big press conference where he annihilates our team. The one thing that really hit us hard was when he called us ‘undeserving champions.'”
“Now you’ve [Shannon Sharpe] won Super Bowls, you’ve been a champion. Now imagine someone saying that what you earned, what you did, you were undeserving of it. And by the way, it wasn’t a coach, it wasn’t a media person, it was one of your peers.”
Jordan’s logic behind calling them that was due to the punishment he received at their hands. It was dirty and brutal, and he had his reasons. And given Thomas’ continuing beef with MJ, it looks like this stance is here to stay.
