This past offseason, the Milwaukee Bucks made a trade for Damian Lillard after two consecutive years of failure in the playoffs. Giannis Antetokounmpo now has a true superstar-level co-star, and many believe the Bucks are in line to win the championship. During the summer, there was a lot of speculation on whether Antetokounmpo would stay with the franchise long-term prior to the Lillard trade, and recently, we got our answer.
NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN has revealed that Antetokounmpo has signed a three-year, $186 million contract extension with the Bucks.

It makes sense that Antetokounmpo ended up committing to the Bucks long-term. He is known as one of the most loyal superstars in the NBA and has frequently expressed his desire to stay in Milwaukee for his entire career. Of course, Antetokounmpo is also a competitor and wants to consistently win at the highest level. The team has now given him an opportunity to do so by trading for Lillard, and it is clear that Antetokounmpo saw the team’s commitment to winning.
Of course, talent on paper doesn’t always mean a team will find championship success. The Bucks will certainly have to do a fair bit of chemistry-building. However, on paper, it is fair to say that Antetokounmpo and Lillard are a perfect fit when it comes to skill set.
During the 2022-23 season, Antetokounmpo averaged 31.1 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 5.7 assists per game for the Bucks while shooting 55.3% from the field. It will be interesting to see whether he and Lillard can win a championship together on the Bucks, and the talent on the team certainly suggests it is a possibility.
