Gilbert Arenas is not one to shy away from making controversial statements and he was at it again recently. During an episode of Gil’s Arena, Arenas implied Michael Jordan used PEDs.

“We played three rounds of 18 holes of golf in the day and then Jordan came out and give us 55,” Arenas said. “I’m tired as hell but Jordan wasn’t… There’s six tests now, there was one test back then. So, all the players that was playing 82 games every year, oh, walking through the NBA season all those players… If you just wanna gonna go there, there was a lot of players playing 82 games period.”

Arenas then brought up that Jordan played all 82 games as a 40-year-old despite not having a great lifestyle.

“What did Michael Jordan play at 40 years old, averaging 20, no sleep, golfing, cigar smoking, drinking, gambling and he played all 82 games,” Arenas continued. “… 82 games as a 40-year-old man averaging 20, who gambled, smoked cigars.”

Arenas stated he found it odd that no one in the NBA was busted despite the league having a drug problem in the 1980s.

“I can show you some pictures of a full head of hair, 3 months later, hairline gone,” Arenas said. “Buffer than a motherf***** out there… All I’m saying is you had waves when the season ended. Decided you needed to get buffed to face them clotheslines. And then your hair gone the next year is all I’m saying.”

It was certainly easier to hide the use of PEDs earlier, as it was just one test a year. Arenas linked that to a 40-year-old Jordan playing all 82 games in the 2002-03 season in which he also averaged 37.0 minutes per game. Hair loss is a side effect of taking these as well and Jordan started shaving his head back in 1989.

Arenas later stated he was not accusing anyone of anything but the implication is pretty obvious here. Jordan, of course, never failed a drug test during his incredible career. Arenas has no real proof either that he did, so I wouldn’t put too much stock into his comments.

LeBron James Has Been Accused Of Using PEDs

A lot of this recent talk about PEDs stemmed from Kevin Garnett controversially saying LeBron James uses steroids. It raised eyebrows and brought up comments made by former UFC fighter Chael Sonnen, who also accused LeBron of using PEDs.

“And he and I have one thing in common, we use the same drug dealer to buy our EPO. And I don’t see anything wrong with that… It was something called EPO.”

“And in the world of performance-enhancing drugs, in my experience, EPO is king. And it is king by eight. I would pass up five other stuff just to have that. But it’s very, very difficult to get. It’s very expensive. We happen to have the same guy.”

“I didn’t say that to out him and or embarrass him. This wasn’t like a dry snitch. I’m sharing that if you want to get a basketball and you want to make it to 38, you want to be the MVP of the league, you can’t just go do certain things.”

Like Jordan, LeBron has never failed a test, but Sonnen has not retracted his comments. Ultimately, though, until someone can actually prove that James or Jordan took PEDs, I don’t think these kinds of comments can be taken seriously.
