Gilbert Arenas was a big competitor during his active days, becoming one of the most famous players in the NBA. He never won a championship, but most of the time was the only good thing the Washington Wizards was for showing, becoming an icon for the capital team.
During a playoff run, Arenas starred in an infamous moment with LeBron James, when the King put a lot of pressure on him before he took and missed two clutch free throws. Arenas explained that he was trolling a young Damon Jones, trying to mess with his head during the entire series. It was until Game 6 that Jones got his revenge thanks to LeBron James (2:54 mark).
“They [the Cavaliers] stopped playing Damon Jones. Game 4, Game 5, he’s not really getting any minutes, and I’m just f***ing laughing at him. Like, ‘f**k you, I got you.’ I’m just taunting Damon Jones the whole time.”
When Game 6 arrived, LeBron used Jones to get under Arenas’ skin, telling him that if he missed two clutch free throws, the Cavaliers would win with a game-winning shot by one other than Jones.
“We’re winning, we’re up one, I got the two free throws, that’s when LeBron tapped me. ‘If you miss it, you know who’s gonna end the game.’ So I missed both of them, right? He’s talking about Damon Jones, like, ‘If you miss this, Damon Jones is getting subbed in.’ Damon Jones is sitting there, laughing, he’s taking sh*t like he’s about to get the ball.”
Arenas didn’t believe LeBron James would give the ball to Jones, especially after he himself made two game-winning shots during the series.
“Sure enough, [LeBron] dribbles to the left, f***ing passed the ball to Damon Jones, and Damon Jones hits the f***ing jumper. You know how sick my stomach felt?”
He learned a big lesson that day helped by LeBron James and Jones, who didn’t miss the chance he got to give his team a win, unlike Arenas did with the Wizards. That was a big series, but in the end, LeBron’s words had a big impact on Arenas and left him helpless against Jones.

Many years have gone by and Arenas is still pretty cool with LeBron James. He was inspired by the NBA legend to train with the black ops, yet he wasn’t able to reach James’ level.
He has explained why the King isn’t feared like other players but still believes that he’s the greatest of all time.
Gilbert Arenas Explains Why His 25-Year-Old Version Was Better Than Stephen Curry’s
Arenas knows a thing or two about greatness, but he’s also confident about his chances in the league. Recently, he talked about the comparisons between himself and Stephen Curry, claiming that he was better than the Chef at 25.
Gil remains one of the most entertaining former players out there, and that won’t change anytime soon. It would’ve been interesting to see how his career would’ve panned out if injuries didn’t bother him, but he’s confident he would hold his own against anybody.
