As LeBron James enters his 21st season in the NBA, it’s remarkable to consider the consistency and longevity of his career. From his rookie season in 2003-04 with the Cleveland Cavaliers to the 2022-23 season with the Los Angeles Lakers, he has been a dominant force in the league, consistently putting up impressive numbers. One of the most notable statistics throughout his career has been his scoring average, which has remained consistently high over the years.

Reviewing LeBron’s scoring averages season by season, we can see his evolution as a scorer and how he’s adapted his game to different circumstances and team dynamics:

2003-04: 20.9 Points per game

2004-05: 27.2 Points per game

2005-06: 31.4 Points per game

2006-07: 27.3 Points per game

2007-08: 30.0 Points per game

2008-09: 28.4 Points per game

2009-10: 29.7 Points per game

2010-11: 26.7 Points per game

2011-12: 27.1 Points per game

2012-13: 26.8 Points per game

2013-14: 27.1 Points per game

2014-15: 25.3 Points per game

2015-16: 25.3 Points per game

2016-17: 26.4 Points per game

2017-18: 27.5 Points per game

2018-19: 27.4 Points per game

2019-20: 25.3 Points per game

2020-21: 25.0 Points per game

2021-22: 30.3 Points per game

2022-23: 28.9 Points per game

This impressive stretch of 19 seasons with 25 or more points per game showcases LeBron’s incredible scoring ability and his ability to adapt his game over time.

Looking ahead to the 2023-24 season, there are several factors to consider when predicting LeBron’s scoring average. LeBron will turn 39 during the upcoming season, and he is already the oldest active player in the league. Given his age and the wear and tear on his body, it’s reasonable to expect that he’ll continue to be on a minute restriction to manage his workload and maintain his health.

The Lakers have been shifting towards a team where Anthony Davis is expected to take on a bigger role. This means LeBron may not need to carry as much of the scoring load as he has in the past. The NBA’s style of play has evolved over the years, with an increased emphasis on three-point shooting and perimeter play. While LeBron has adapted to this style, his scoring may be affected by changes in the game. The Lakers’ roster may also feature additional scoring options, which could alleviate some of the scoring burden on LeBron.

Considering these factors, it’s plausible to predict that LeBron’s scoring average for the 2023-24 season may decrease from his career average of 27.2 Points per game. If we take the last five seasons as a reference, where he averaged 27.3 Points per game, it’s reasonable to expect a further decline.

Predicting LeBron’s scoring average for the upcoming season is challenging, but a conservative estimate could place him in the range of 25-26 points per game. While this would be a decrease from his career average, it would still be a remarkable achievement, as he would extend his streak of having 25+ points per game for the 20th straight year.

In summary, as LeBron James enters his 21st season in the NBA, there is no doubt that his role and scoring output will continue to evolve. While he may not maintain his career average, he remains an elite scorer in the league, and his ability to adapt and contribute to his team’s success is a testament to his basketball greatness.
