Vince Carter and Tracy McGrady are two of the most exciting and explosive scorers ever in the NBA. During the early 2000s, both stars emerged as potential heirs to the throne Michael Jordan left behind. And one of the most amazing facts about the two is that they are cousins. Speaking on a podcast recently, they discussed how they found out.

“It still baffles me and makes me laugh how we found out we were cousins,” Carter said before talking about how they found out. “I remember my phone ringing, it was my grandma. I’m like, ‘The hell is she calling me for? Grandma, you good? What’s going on?’ And on the other line, I hear, ‘What’s up, cuz, what’s up!’ And I’m like, ‘Bruh, who is this?’ He said, ‘This Mac cuz, we family, cuz.’ I’m like, ‘What are you talking about, bro? This doesn’t make sense.'”

“You don’t even understand how excited I was when I heard this, man,” McGrady added to the story. “Because, I’m telling you this is, post-being on Team Florida, watching you, I told you it was the inspiration, then I’m playing pickup ball with y’all, I go home and I run into your grandmother, I was like, ‘Hold up, bro, we cousins?’ I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, man, I cannot believe this.'”

It must be wild for two NBA players to find out something like this. Especially so because they both were on their way to becoming huge superstars. The two went on to become good friends and remain so to this day while also having enjoyed some legendary NBA interactions.

Tracy McGrady Revealed His Epic Conversation With Vince Carter Before His Iconic Dunk Contest

Tracy McGrady and Vince Carter both participated in the NBA Slam Dunk Contest together. And Carter won in legendary fashion, with T-Mac later revealing what he said to him before the competition.

“He had to convince me, and I’m talking about probably to the last hour. I’m like, “Cuz, why the hell am I getting in this dunk contest if you’re in it? Boy, we know what’s gonna happen. Like, I’m not for losing. He was like, ‘Come on, man, it’ll be good exposure for you.’ And this and that. [I said], ‘But I’m with you every day, I see what you can do. I can’t do that.’ ‘Man, you’re underestimating yourself, cuz. You can, man.'”

This story shows that even outside of being cousins, the two shared a bond that allowed them to bounce ideas off of one another. Vince Carter and Tracy McGrady may not have achieved the heights they threatened to early in their careers, but the two cousins wrote their names in NBA history, which not a lot of cousins can claim.
