D’Angelo Russell is having a second chance on the Los Angeles Lakers, and he’s trying to take the most advantage of it.

He was traded back to Los Angeles from the Minnesota Timberwolves after a tumultuous tenure on that team. Now that he’s on the team that originally drafted him, putting up big performances, Russell has talked about the differences between the Lakers and Timberwolves.

“I felt like I was held back there, honestly,” Russell said, per Sam Amick of The Athletic. “I just kind of had to be the third option. Some nights, I was a little more aggressive and was kind of being held back. So to be in a position now where I can kind of thrive and be aggressive and it gets guys going, and where the team reflects off of anybody with that type of energy, it’s fun.”

Russell landed in Minnesota ready to make an impact with Karl-Anthony Towns and then Anthony Edwards, but things didn’t work for him. In the end, he was dealt to his original team, where he’s thriving, getting praised for his performances.

In Game 3 of the Golden State Warriors series, he was tied as the second-best scorer on the team, dropping 21 points on Stephen Curry and co. D’Lo has found his place in the world, and he’s not wasting this opportunity.

D’Angelo Russell Was Given A Second Chance On Lakers

After being traded from Los Angeles to the Brooklyn Nets, Russell became an All-Star. He couldn’t translate that level to the Golden State Warriors, who sent him to Minnesota in exchange for Andrew Wiggins. After a couple of seasons there, Russell is now back in Los Angeles.

He’s having a second opportunity with the Lakers, and despite not being happy with the way the team uses him at some point, D’Lo is finding his rhythm, helping his squad secure big wins and advance in the 2023 NBA Playoffs.
