Because Lois Lane, like every other regular person, eventually gets cut off. Because you're not an asset, you're a liability. 

"So what Gabrielle Union will say is, 'I'm gonna be Superwoman. I'm gonna help. I got an extra 20 grand I can just f**king blow. Here, we're just gonna throw it and you can help some of these bills out.' So that's more of what it is, instead of becoming a liability for your man... Cuz I'm telling you, at some point, Superman will get tired of saving Lois Lane."

That is an interesting perspective from Arenas on the entire situation, it's something he has given a fair bit of thought. Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union may not see it in such a mercenary fashion, but they surely do it out of a mutual understanding of what makes their relationship work.
