After being swept in the Western Conference Finals, LeBron James shocked the world by hinting at a potential retirement. After 20 years of greatness, James has nothing left to prove as a player but it was still shocking to hear about him reconsidering his NBA future.

While LeBron has yet to make any formal announcement on his playing career, Lakers GM Rob Pelinka recently confirmed suspensions that he will be returning for at least one more season. Speaking to the media this week, Rob broke his silence on LeBron’s future with a simple statement.

“Well, we’ll always let LeBron speak for himself, but we were all excited to see his Instagram post the other day where he was giving love to his new teammates, and the great leader he is doing the behind-the-scenes work to get things ready for the season,” he said on ESPN.

This summer, LeBron has stayed out of the public eye except for the rare post on social media where he occasionally gives a shoutout to his teammates. For weeks, LeBron has been overseas attending various events but we also know he’s been busy supporting his sons as they prepare for high-level basketball.

Meanwhile, the Lakers have been hard at work building a roster around him and they do not look like a team that’s concerned about their best player potentially walking away.

Why Did LeBron Suggest Retirement?

Of course, nobody knows the thoughts and motivations of LeBron but LeBron James himself, but it’s no surprise that the NBA community never really took his retirement talk seriously. Reports are now claiming the whole thing was just the result of frustration by the King.

“The conversation about him retiring came in the moment. After playing the game and losing, he was very frustrated,” reported Brandon Robinson. “But from folks I’ve spoken to within the Lakers’ organization, those who know, they share with me that LeBron will be back in the fall, a very motivated LeBron going into the season.”

Only time will tell how this plays out for the Lakers, but there seems to be strong confidence from every corner that LeBron has not played his last game with the Purple and Gold. There’s unfinished business and the Lakers might just have enough pieces to finally get the job done.
