The 2023 Playoffs ended with LeBron James being left in a very confusing spot with his title aspirations on the Lakers. They made an unlikely run from the play-in to the Conference Finals, but can they build a roster in one offseason that can take down the Nuggets?

After their loss to Denver, James floated the idea of possibly retiring this summer. Brandon Robinson has revealed that the Lakers are confident in getting LeBron back for next season.

“The conversation about him retiring came in the moment. After playing the game and losing, he was very frustrated. But from folks I’ve spoken to within the Lakers’ organization, those who know, they share with me that LeBron will be back in the fall, a very motivated LeBron going into the season.”

James averaged 24.5 points, 9.9 rebounds, and 6.5 assists in the playoffs, objectively good numbers for a top player in the NBA, but not what we expect from LeBron.

He was playing on an injured foot, so hopefully a summer of rejuvenation and good roster moves by the Lakers can lead to James coming back next season, knowing they have a chance to compete.

LeBron James Fueled By Michael Malone’s Comments

Nuggets head coach Michael Malone wasn’t happy that the story of their team making it to the first NBA Finals in franchise history was overshadowed by LeBron’s possible retirement. Malone had previously criticized the media for ignoring them and took shots at LeBron multiple times after winning the title. Brandon Robinson also revealed that James is using Malone’s comments as fuel to come back for another season.

“LeBron was very pissed about what Michael Malone said about him. From folks that I’ve spoken to, he’s one of the many motivators going into next season… Mike Malone is on his dartboard.”

The Nuggets look very hard to top, but if the Lakers could possibly entice swingman Bruce Brown to leave Denver for LA while making the right moves to fill out their roster, they could be a seven-game series away from another Finals appearance.
