The Denver Nuggets are finally NBA champions after beating the Miami Heat in five games in the 2023 NBA Finals. After 56 years, the Nuggets finally won a championship led by Nikola Jokic.

Michael Malone was very happy after his team secured the title, but he hasn’t forgotten about the Los Angeles Lakers despite sweeping them a couple of weeks ago. Malone recently trolled LeBron James and his team for taking away the attention from the Nuggets after the Western Conference Finals. (13:30 mark)

“Speaking of the Lakers, I just want you guys to know, this is breaking news: I’m thinking about retiring,” he joked on the Pat McAfee show.

Malone still clarified he’s not going anywhere and will try to keep building something good with the Nuggets.

“Only kidding. Hey, I don’t want to Kroenke family looking for a new head coach. I’m not retiring,” he added.

This is a jab at the King for making those cloudy comments about his potential retirement after the 2023 NBA Playoffs. The King took all the attention away from the Nuggets, who just made it to the NBA Finals for the first time and everybody was talking about the Purple and Gold.

The Nuggets played great basketball on their way to the Finals, and LeBron’s comments were very unfortunate. Charles Barkley disagreed with that action, as well as many fans.

Nikola Jokic made it clear his team is used to being ignored by the media, and that situation wasn’t unusual for him.

Michael Malone Called Out The Lakers During And After The 2023 Western Conference Finals

Malone is different, though, and he recalled on this show that, as soon as the Nuggets took the 1-0 lead in the series, the headlines only talked about the Lakers and how they ‘figured out’ Denver. Nothing changed even after they won the series, and Malone took offense to that

The veteran coach made it clear that if people don’t think about the Nuggets after this championship, nothing will change for them.

“If they don’t [talk about us enough], we don’t give a sh*t. We believe in each other, we know what we’re doing and all we worry about is, what we do every single day on this journey,” Malone said.

The Nuggets are in a very good position after completing the 2023 NBA championship. Contrary to what people think, they have a big chance to become a dynasty in the NBA, but first, they need to make some moves in the offseason.

If Bruce Brown leaves, they’ll need to find the right piece to replace him. With a similar player to Brown, the Nuggets could win one or two more championships in the next couple of years and become a dynasty. And after that, it will be really hard for people to ignore this team.
