Nikola Jokic is not surprised by the lack of media attention around the Denver Nuggets in their Western Conference Finals series against the Los Angeles Lakers.

After head coach Michael Malone expressed his anger with the Nuggets and Jokic not receiving their recognition, Jokic expressed that he isn’t bothered or surprised by the media narratives around this matchup.

“It’s nothing new for us. To be honest, I like it. We don’t care. Whatever. Even in the bubble when we beat Utah, it was they blew the lead. When we beat the Clippers, it was they blew the lead. Nobody talked about how we won those games. It’s normal for us. I don’t pay attention [to all of that].”

Nikola Jokic has already been through the critical media ringer during the season, with narratives being spun to diminish his success through the year to take him out of the race for MVP. He expressed he didn’t care then and it’s clear he doesn’t care now. If he ends up leading Denver to the title, the media won’t have a choice but talk about his incredible championship run.

Can The Nuggets Pull This Off?

Only six teams have overcome a 2-0 Conference Finals deficit, as compared to 58 teams that have failed. Teams with LeBron James have done this twice, as he did in 2007 against the Detroit Pistons and then in 2018 against the Boston Celtics. LeBron in 2023 is not the athlete those previous versions of him were, so the task is the tallest it’s ever been.

The Nuggets are a No. 1 seed that hasn’t lost a single game at home in the playoffs. For the Lakers to not only win their remaining home games but also pull off a road win will be extremely challenging. The form of the Nuggets right now is sublime and they should be heavy favorites to defend this lead and make it to the first Finals in franchise history.
