The Denver Nuggets have finally accomplished their franchise goal of winning an NBA Championship, ending a 47-year wait for their first taste of championship glory.

Now that the Nuggets have officially been crowned champions, coach Michael Malone wants them to remain motivated and push to become an NBA dynasty and win over multiple seasons.

“Pat Riley said something many years ago, I used to have it on my board when I was head coach in Sacramento. It talks about the evolution in this game and how you go from a nobody to an upstart, from an upstart to a winner, winner to a contender, a contender to a champion. The last step after a champion is to be a dynasty, so we are not satisfied. We accomplished something this franchise has never done before. We have a lot of young, talented players in that locker room. We just showed through 16 playoff wins what we’re capable of on the biggest stage of the world.”

Malone has led this team admirably for the last few years and deserves this title win just as much as any of the players on the roster. Building a dynasty is no joke, but the Nuggets may already have all the pieces they need to keep moving forward.

Can The Nuggets Defend Their Crown?

For the first time since the late ’70s, have we seen five different champions in five years. The Raptors, Lakers, Bucks, and Warriors failed to defend their title wins in the season after. Can the Nuggets break that trend and prove to the league that they are the next dynasty?

The Nuggets will have to carefully use assets to not only strengthen their team in the short-term to keep moving forward but without losing key pieces of their roster. Bruce Brown is the only notable free agent for the Nuggets this summer, and they’ll likely pay whatever they need to keep him around.

They have a few draft picks they can use for minor improvements as well, so it’ll be interesting to see what the next phase for this squad is.
