LeBron James saw his Los Angeles Lakers team slump to yet another loss after his 38-point performance went in vain against the Washington Wizards. However, the game saw LeBron set a massive individual record as he surpassed Karl Malone to become the second in the all-time NBA scoring charts

LeBron ended the game with 36,947 total career points, 1440 behind the all-time leader Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. At LeBron’s current scoring pace, he would break the record in the 2022-23 NBA season, barring any serious injury.

As James is cementing himself in the all-time NBA leaderboards, former two-time NBA Champion Isiah Thomas took to Twitter for a ringing endorsement of James by calling him a ‘once in a lifetime player’.

We are in the final few years of watching LeBron James play basketball and it is quite incredible to see James keep up his offensive productivity even at the age of 37. While many were anticipating a drop-off in production with the addition of Russell Westbrook, LeBron has had to carry his team’s offense at a rate he hasn’t done since his first stint in Cleveland.

LeBron and the Lakers have had the unfortunate distinction of missing star player Anthony Davis for most of the season, the second season in a row where a Davis injury has spoiled the Lakers season. In addition, the risky off-season moves to add veteran talent around an already aging core have not paid off. But at least this season has allowed LeBron to make some giant leaps towards Kareem’s record.

LeBron James will go down in history as one of the greatest regardless of how this season ends for LA. His legacy is set, he is just using his remaining time to make it look even better. Becoming the all-time leader in scoring will be an incredible addition to LeBron’s glittering resume.
