In what comes as a crucial update, Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant reportedly has no fractures or breaks following the hand injury he sustained during Game 1 of the NBA 2022-23 playoffs against the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Athletic’s Shams Charania provided the update about Morant dodging a serious injury that could, in all probability, have sidelined him for more than one game.

The guard was seen writhing in pain after he drove the basket for a shot and instead ended up landing awkwardly on his hand after running right into Anthony Davis. He had played for 30 minutes, propping up 18 points and 6 rebounds but was ruled out soon after.

Earlier, NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski had said that there was “significant doubt” over Morant’s availability for Game 2. There is still no clear indication if the star guard would take the floor for the Grizzlies.

The Grizzlies Will Hope That Ja Morant Plays The Second Game On Wednesday

The latest Ja Morant injury update may sound promising, but chances are that Memphis might consider resting him to ensure he’s ready for the remaining games and possibly a deeper run if they pip the Lakers in the first round of the playoffs.

The 23-year-old had earlier stressed that he would do anything he could to play. Per ESPN, “I’m going to do anything to try to be out there for my team, be out there on the floor. It’s pretty much how much I can tolerate. If I feel like I can go out there and be somewhat myself, I’ll probably play. But if not, I don’t want to do anything to hurt the team.”

Morant’s mental health has been dissected and has been doing the rounds ever since he returned to the Grizzlies fold after a spate of controversies. The Athletic reported the change in his mannerisms.

The Grizzlies would surely want their star player on the floor, especially against a resurgent Lakers unit. But they will be wise not to rush him when they know he’s not 100% yet. Game 2 between the Grizzlies and the Lakers will be played at the FedEx Forum on Wednesday.
